Gen-Xers with lifelong depression, what was your experience as a child/teen in the 70s-80s?

Never answered your initial question…

First referred to tx in 2nd grade, but my parents (both teachers) decided I was fine, probly bc I was quiet, well behaved and did well academically (my debilitating perfectionism was still slightly “cute”).

Age 10 - very close family friend was found to be a child molester. So we never saw him again, and my parents thought that solved the problem

Age 11 - subconsciously realized I needed to get loud in order to get the help I needed. Finally got inpatient, and my parents invented a story to tell my peers that I had mono. Inpatient was very useless for sad, smart, little girls. It was set up for aggressive ADHD little boys, so as I was at the oldest of the age range, I spent my time mothering the little rugrats.
