Gen Z also doesn't understand desktops. after decades of boomers going "Y NO WORK U MAKE IT GO" it's really, really sad to think the new generation might do the same thing to all of us

In the 2000s I was both surprised and dismayed to learn that although younger people had and were growing up with computers all around them, they only learned enough to do the bare minimum that they wanted to.

Every young adult I know that is tech savvy was "forced" to learn it on their own as a kid because they wanted to play video games on their PC and didn't have an older sibling to set it up for them. It was difficult back then (95 - 2012 ish) and you were forced to learn it on your own.

Kids can learn extremely fast with the right motivation. But if they don't care that much about it (eg. don't play video games), if someone else takes care of it for them (eg. older brother), or if what they do doesn't IT skill (eg. user-friendliness of modern apps), most kids are not going to want to spend entire weekends messing around with their PC.
