The boots do indeed feel only the slightest bit oily out of the box but not like they are soaked, but they definitely give a nice softness to the pretty rough nap they gave this rough out, this again being compared to the 3sixteen collab which is about the same amount of slickness but has a much finer nap closer to a typical suede. The black on these boots is pretty deep and the contrasting soles make it pop so much more. The laces that were supplied with these boots are a darker chocolate color , and they seem pretty standard for leather laces, I only can compare them to some on my Truman's and they both seem about the same. The most interesting thing to me though about these boots is actually something not visual. I own quite a number of boots, but none of these smell or remind me of a baseball glove like these. I played baseball my entire life until high school and this just gives me a whiff of memories. Aside from the fresh leather laces which is probably the biggest contributor...the actual roughout smells the same. Now this isn't to say its going to infuse the entire room with some leather scent, its just pungent enough that when you grab them to lace them up, you'll get a hint of it.
# Sizing and Fit
I went with an ***8.5.*** To be completely honest though, my hand was forced to buy an 8.5 as I didn't want the boot to be too large on a 9 and the 8 was sold out. So I guess it all works out. They fit absolutely well out of the box! Basically a perfect fit. The toe box has room without being in excess and when laced up the sides wrap well along my ankles. Only one thing I noticed immediately that was off putting, was using the top speed hook; it put too much pressure around my ankle and so as of now I don't use it. The sole feels great off the bat, I'm excited to see how comfortable these are as my Trumans and Viberg with Dainite soles are probably my least favorite to stand or walk in for long periods of time.
