General Discussion - April 14, 2017

I've been toying with the idea of looking for another job. I really, really love the small business I currently work for but I have some issues. They've given me two very generous raises since I've started in July, but I really feel overlooked.

To start, my supervisor quit in November so I've been the sole employee of my department since then and have yet to even be talked to about the supervisor position. I didn't have any experience in this specific industry prior to starting here, but I have ten years management experience with a 25-30 person team. They also sat me down to talk about how my supervisor brought the department to its knees but they appreciate how hard I've worked to get (and continue to) everything back up to standard.

I also found out my bonuses have been the lowest of everyone here (~8 employees), still higher than what my supervisor received however I feel like it says a lot about what they think of my quality of work. The lab manager who is in charge of this doesn't work with me directly, so I feel like my bonus is a reflection of that especially because our whole computer system was down for two weeks but then I spent the following week to stay late and help our receptionist get all our samples logged in, tracked, and reported. Everyone else saw a huge jump in their bonuses after that, but mine stayed the same. It just has me feeling really down and under appreciated.

But I haven't been here a year, and my goal was to work here for at least two years to build up job history and then seek employment elsewhere because there isn't a whole lot of upward mobility here either.

I just don't know if I should buckle down and keep working, because really it's a good place to work (and I'm not owed a bonus ever, so I shouldn't use that as a measurement of the work I do), or casually look for somewhere else.
