Generating Ideas to Help the homeless

The city hires gardeners to plant flowers on streets multiple times during the spring and summer. I also saw them painting those planters as well. What if we stop using the budget money for things like flowers until we deal with the homeless problem. I was walking by one of those planters and saw someone had planted peppers, tomatoes and beet greens in one of them instead of flowers. I liked it way better. It was cool seeing food growing. How much is the city spending on gardeners and beautification? They don't even plant annuals that come back every year on their own, they plant stuff that dies and has to be replaced multiple times during the season. Why not plant our own seeds for veggies, using those pots as a community garden? Take the money spent on all those flowers and workers and put it on securing homes for those people living in tents in winter. Could call it Seeds for Change. People could just plant seeds or grow seedlings from home and translplant them in the pots/flower boxes, saving the city money to reallocate. Pretty flowers are nice but not necessary and our people are more important to spend that money on.
