Gentrification destroyed the San Francisco I knew. Austin is next | Patrick Bresnan

I am also completely perplexed by where the huge push for sustainable architecture in Austin has gone. Only a couple years ago there was a 3d printed house on display while it was be made during sxsw. The whole idea of 3d printed technology was that they would be so valuable for a place like Austin where growth is so fast, materials and construction labor is limited because of demand and the cost of construction would make housing accessible to everyone being displaced. I'm sure those companies have taken grant money from sxsw, the city of austin, federal innovation programs. Where are they now? I recently came across an article about a 3d printed neighborhood going up in Austin. The average cost was 450,000 for a 1500 sq ft house. That is fucking disgusting that an industry developed to offset costs and offer housing to most budgets is being turned into the typical greedy real estate market opportunity.
