And judging from the neverending stream of tears surrounding the mechanic from PvE players, it seems to be working well.

Ahh I see, you're one of those people. Well grats on being a big tough guy in a video game. I too used to love PVP when I was younger but now I just like to chill with friends.

And it's okay if some games don't fit that category but I'm not asking them to take away your easy kills with your twink, just that if there's an option for people who don't want PVP then they will sell more copies of the game.

It's not taking anything away from you, it's just bringing in more players (even if you don't get to gank them with your tryhard twink) and hence more money which will only encourage them to make more games.
