Geoffrey Hinton and Demis Hassabis: AGI is nowhere close to being a reality

It has an all knowing, all powerful God. Eternal life. Freedom from suffering and pain. Eternal joy.

Even though I agree these kind of things have a sexy appeal to them, I don't believe that the idea of singularity is viewed by intelligent people in religious connotations. As anyone who has bothered to read the basic premise of the singularity would know it is nothing more than a apex reached by to the accelerated growth of technology, It's an extremely logical perspective on the future of humanity and the argument for it can easily be supported by the strong evidence of technological progression throughout human history.

One of the multitudes of examples being 200 years ago we didn't have electricity, telephones, and we where riding horses and travelling the world through the power of wind, today we have smart phones, can talk to anyone almost anywhere on the planet the within seconds, we can travel from one side of the world to the other in a day, we have people living in space, we have robots on Mars and have sent other robots beyond the solar system. All these things plus many others are nothing but utterly fantastical to people that lived 100 years ago but completely taken for granted today.

Technological growth is not slowing down and it should be in no way far reaching to think that in another 50 years or so those futuristic points you made will be common place everyday things and seen no differently than catching an airplane over to London for a weeks holiday or a kidney transplant or any other the other amazing things have and do with technology.
