George H.W. Bush has passed away. Everyone ready for another round of "HOW DARE YOU MOURN A WAR CRIMINAL!?!?!?" vs. "HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE THE RECENTLY DECEASED!?!?!?"

I mean, yeah? He's a piece of shit person. Why should we feel any form of sadness, particularly for millions of people who had no personal relationship to him and countless mullions that are still affected by his actions and decisions. Nothing of value was lost.

For once you and I disagree on a thing! Every human life has value, imo.

You also say "no personal relationship" but I'm sure there are famous people who you'd feel a deep connection with if they died, they're just famous people who you like and agree with politically.

People get so upset when a person is praised in the immediate aftermath of their death as though this momentary respite in criticism is somehow going to make people forget everything else about them, forever. History isn't written only the week after you die.

Nobody is whitewashing. Nobody will forget the bad things. They're just choosing not focus SOLELY on them bad things for a brief period immediately following his death. And heck many of the top comments in posts about it say "he did a lot of bad thing I disagree with..." As an opening to say something respectful they can agree with, like his service in WWII.

Frankly, the minute I saw the /r/news post about his death, my first thought was "negareddit is gonna be so pissed if anyone is being nice in there"

Honestly, I think the nega take of "dead politicians I didn't like should burn in hell and it's not disrespectful to say that within hours of their death" is tremendously cold and cynical.

you have to then wonder how people are going to treat Trump when he croaks or anyone else for that matter.

Trump is in a completely different league and I think it's a bit cynical to think it'll be treated the same way as McCain or Bush. Trump is so much more polarizing.
