German opposition leader meets Zelenskiy

Sanctions including removal if Swift have been planned months before the invasion when reports of Russian military movements were reported privately by NATO partners. That's why they were so fast. Do you seriously believe those can be done in a week?

In other words. The economic ties to Russia were assumed cut the moment they invaded. And not just for a month or so either. But long term to harm their ability to strengthen offensive abilities and keep leading attack wars.

However, it is true that sanctions weren't absolute. Which is important too though and reinforced by several other economists and NATO partners. Sanctions that harm you more than your opponent weaken your position, make it harder to enforce and can't be sustained long term. Which is why Germany has been working so extremely hard on independence. Which is currently on track to be sooner than other countries who pledged embargos and independence from Russian oil (the bank excerpted by sanctions is the one associated with oil delivery)

I'm sorry you feel this way but your explanation is not supported by German and EU actions.

Also, no one is sending heavy weapons. It's only been expected of Germany. US foreign Minister has called it a bold decision Germany takes in isolation. Meaning the US does not consider doing the same nor do they officially support it as NATO partners.

Germany is, apparently hesitantly, in the top 3 supporters of Ukraine. Both in total amount and in percent of GDP.

The toned down communication is necessary as German military involvement has a lot of connotation and German leadership in Europe is overall not too well received.

But apparently, actions do not speak louder than words.
