Gets the job done

There are two things I want to address.

First of all, the bills changing even small things aren't actually "to appease a fringe group of people." They affect that fringe group of people, but they are made to appease that fringe group and its supporters, including yourself since you support them having full civil and legal rights.

The second thing is the interpretation of "full civil and legal rights", because one could argue it's discriminating to only address "Ladies and Gentlemen", literally meaning "Women and Men", because some people claim to be neither.

That of course would open other questions:

  • Are they really neither male nor female, or both either permanently or fluctuating?
  • Is discrimination based on gender illegal? (I think yes, because when the laws were written we only recognized 2 genders, so the law might state something broad like that)
  • Is addressing only one part of the group already discriminating? What, for example, would happen if the host at the oscars would say: "Christian Ladies and Gentlemen", obviously leaving out Muslims, Jews and all the other religions?

So, if we as a society decide that:

  • it is discriminating to only adress part of the group
  • people can have two (or more) or neither gender(s), either permanent or fluctuating
  • discrimination based on gender is illegal

Then you support changing "Ladies and Gentlemen" to something non-discriminating.
