Well antibiotics are not needed for the strep itself but can prevent complications. And I've had seriously excruciating step throat. I don't go to the doctor for viral infections that will go away on their own but I had to go to get something prescribed for the pain, I was literally drooling into a cup to avoid having to swallow, and the pain was not lessened at all by advil I took. There's no way I would have slept that night. I went to the urgent care and I had a dangerously high fever. After getting it down I was sent home with a script for percocets and some kind of cough syrup and antibiotics. I was better within 4 days and didn't have to suffer.

I agree the people saying to call CPS are being ridiculous, that will not turn out good for OP and they are dealing with real abuse like 5 year olds not being fed and beat. A 17 year old not taken to the doctor? Neglectful and shitty but being emancipated is probably going to be more harm than good. OP definitely has a right to be pissed at his dad and girlfriend though. That shit SUCKS and he was helpless to do anything without his Dad. If your child is under 18 and on your insurance then its your responsibility to take them no matter what your plans were. And the girlfriend is way out of line
