Gift ideas for 3 sons of a friend (German speaking) that live in the Dusseldorf area? They're all under the age of 12 I believe.

Can you ask the friend what they are into? or if they own a game console? I can give you recommendations based on kids of friends of mine, but they can be hit or miss if the children you speak of aren't into them.

That said, the boys I know (7&9) like:

Nerf guns, Donald Duck comics, Greg's Tagebuch (that's Diary of a wimpy kid), Minecraft and stuff that has to do with it, Donald Duck Comics, Das Magische Baumhaus (magic treehouse) books, Lego NinjaGo (movies and play sets), other Lego sets especially of the Star Wars kind, games for their game console (plants vs. zombies has been a huge hit, and the older one saved up to buy the second one) as well as board games that can be played collaboratively with the whole family.

Pandemie (Pandemic) with the first extension is a particular favourite there, and if the family plays together, that could work as a group gift. But only if the family likes board games.

They also like the boxes with various experiments and stuff to do that firms like Cosmos sell. They have the advantage that they come with fairly clear age classification. For the younger kids, dinosaur digging sets have always been a smash hit (pun intended).

Are you in Germany and do you have a Müller market anywhere near? They always have a pretty nice selection of basically all the stuff I mentioned, and helpful people working there. Or use their (https://shop.mueller.de/spielwaren)[online shop].
