A girl and her dog

That's really cute, and bittersweet!

Pictures like this, make me think back upon the animals that made a huge difference in my own childhood!

A lot of people under-estimate the importance of animals in human life, including the profound and powerful role pets often play our childhoods.

Given how pets can become a virtual member of our families (or how some other animals actually give up and sacrifice their entire bodies to nourish us through food)... you would really think we would make a bigger effort as a society to reward and treat animals better, than we currently do, on average.

INTERESTINGLY... I once hitchhiked through Alaska in my youth, to the Yukon, the North West Territories, and beyond the arctic circle in... and all along the way I encountered and met many various aboriginal tribes, including a lot from the Inuit community.

What really struck me about many of those tribes was the HUGE amount of respect they had for animals. A lot of them actually still hunt animals for a good portion of their yearly food intake... but they have hugely respectful hunting rituals... and after they kill the animal, they perform entire ceremonies to thank the spirit of the animals for dying, to sustain them.

This is such a far cry from how our civilization tends to treat such animals...

ANYWAYS... My apologies! I took a cute photo like this, and turned it into some kind of moral preaching on my part!

So yes... animal rights politics aside...

This is an awesome pic! Brought back memories of my own pets of childhood!

Thanks for sharing!
