When I was younger I remember going on so many dates where the girl would order something really expensive, not eat all of it, order dessert, not finish it, and then carefully pack it all into a takeout bag, and then I’d stupidly just go along with it and pay for everything because that was my fucking job.

God, how was I that stupid. I spent a whole month in a relationship where the girl did this on every single date, should have left her way sooner. Finally ended after I took her out for a really nice dinner, she didn’t like the mussels she ordered so I offered to get her something else, she got the filet and put both in a doggie bag, had a nice soufflé for dessert, and then after I dropped her off she carefully got all her take out bags out of the car and told me in her driveway that we should just be friends.

What the ever loving fuck was wrong with me?

In fairness to myself, I never dated in high school, only one real relationship through college then she passed away and I was an absolute wreck for about a year. I just went through the motions of living until people started shoving me back out there before I was ready and my self-esteem was bottomed out. Long time ago but I still have trouble looking back at it.
