This is true, especially when you're talking about someone who is at least two standard deviations above average intelligence, like my ex-girlfriend. Unbeknownst to me, she was cheating and made it a point to casually talk about the guy (who lived halfway across the country) as if he was just a friend that she communicated with frequently about school. Naturally I didn't see him as a threat or even think anything of him.

She was emotionally cheating on me the entire time we were together, and their relationship was consummated a couple months after we pledged monogamy to each other. Like a sociopath, she had minimal guilt about keeping it a secret for 10 months. I had a dream that she cheated on me, and I was so convinced that it was legit that I called her at 5am and accused her of cheating, which she convincingly denied, but I still demanded that we get tested for STD's. We did, and after the results came back clean, she finally spilled the beans because "she didn't want to keep that kind of secret from me if there's a chance of us getting engaged."

Translation: "Somehow you caught me and now I'm shit testing you to see if there's still a chance that you'll promise to be my Beta Bucks for life even though I've been cheating on you the whole time. If you fail, I'm going to dump you." She also flat out admitted hypergamy was the reason - that she was cheating to see which one of us she'd rather be with, and I "won" because she picked me. Gee, what a prize! The only problem was that was also a lie; I didn't really "win yet" because I still had to pass another shit test. I promptly failed it because I told her I had no intention of ever getting legally married and if I did, it wouldn't be to a slut like her.

One thing that makes me feel better is that I was never truly her "BB". She unquestionably spent more money on our relationship than I did. I knew that she was only plate material when I met her, but I made the mistake of lying to myself that she was LTR material simply because of how hot she is.
