Girls shouldn't be allowed in Boy Scouts.

Eagle Scout here. I left scouting right before this transition occurred, so I paid a lot of attention to this debate. In my opinion, the whole organization should just be "Scouts", as it is in a vast majority of the rest of the world.

There's nothing inherently male about Scouting as a program. There is no badge or rank requirement that a girl cannot physically or mentally do. Scouting doesn't teach you how to be a man, it teaches you how to be a more prepared person.

And to be honest it was a practical decision to switch to co-ed to meet the needs of families. In my troop (and several others I met), we had girl siblings of scouts that would regularly (some for several years) attend our meetings and campouts because it was easier than enrolling them in another program.

In some cases, an active Girl Scout troop doesn't exist. And Girl Scouts as an organization is a very different than BSA. Some girls prefer the more outdoors focused BSA program while other girls prefer the more entrepreneurial / STEM focus of Girl Scouts.
