This might not count, because the technique was my way of coping with a learning disorder eventually diagnosed in my 30's (not to be mistaken with intelligence deficit).
I now work in the #1 hospital in the world (based on rankings from multiple sources). I was in surgery; the doctor knew when to close the patient once my job was complete.
I recently moved to neurology. Our lab performs a test only offered at 23 labs in the whole world - and of those, we are the only one who does it with a meticulous method that is very difficult and advanced... but much better for patient diagnostics.

These are "teased fibers" where we manually separate the fibrils of a nerve using forceps and a microscope. It would be like trying to separate the fibers of a yarn string using only cooking spoons with oven mitts on.
