The Giuliani of 1989 Would Indict the Giuliani of 2018

Honestly, Fox News is a huge plague to our country. I'm not going to call it fake news like Trump, their actual straight news reporting for the most part is accurate, although they do suffer from selection bias like any news outlet. The problem with them is their opinion journalists who take up 90% of prime time coverage. People like Hannity, Bill'O Reilly, Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, etc. They don't just distort facts and present misleading narratives, they relentlessly hammer into their viewer's heads a profound distrust and fear of liberals, mainstream institutions, foreigners, minorities, and moderate progressive ideas.

I grew up with it every day when I was a kid, I swear, before I actually started to meet and interact with liberals in high school, I seriously thought they were horrible, evil people who wanted to destroy our country. I though climate change was an obvious hoax and was so outraged that so many people were being lied to. I didn't know that there was such thing as a good Muslim, I would be seriously scared for my life if a man with a turban was on a plane. I thought that the US was the savior of the world and that anyone who was against our wars hated America and wanted to implement Shariah Law. None of this was based on facts or data, it was just based on being brainwashed by Fox News every day of my life. But as I grew up and started to expand my horizons it quickly became clear that Fox News was bullshit. I was a child, I didn't know any better. These people are adults and they do know better, yet they still fall for the Fox News indoctrination, and this indoctrination warps their perspective so much that they no longer share a common reality.

This is not about having different political views, this is about having different truths in general. Then these people go out and vote. For the longest time the worst they could do was choose the Republican candidate. But with the rise of social media they were able to increasingly let their voice be heard. The loudest and more extreme right-wingers who were indoctrinated the most were able to spread their ideas and start grass roots organizations. They worked off of the fear, distrust, and vulnerabilities of other conservatives to expand their radical ideologies. Started with the tea party, then they morphed into the alt-right, then they elected Donald Trump.

Now here we are and Fox News' newest ploy is to hammer into their viewer's heads that all of our intelligence and justice institutions are taken over by evil liberals out to remove a duly elected President. In their minds, this is the culmination of everything Fox News has been warning them about. If Mueller finds evidence of crimes committed by Trump, I seriously am afraid for how these people will handle it. The two realities will come colliding together and they will either have to accept that they have been lied to for years and everything they thought they knew was wrong or they will continue living in their alternate reality where the President of the United States has just been deposed by a massive, liberal coup. I am terrified of how they would react to that reality.
