Given the hate campaign being directed at drag queens in the US, should RuPaul be more outspoken?

The fans are too harsh on Ru.

Maybe the contestants are more vocal on Twitter than Ru, but Ru is responsible for providing them the huge platform that they have. The fact that she’s launched the careers of so many politically outspoken drag entertainers is a huge accomplishment, and it should be acknowledged.

Ru is also often political anyway and highlights LGBT issues as it is, she just doesn’t take the “FUCK CONSERVATIVES” route. Her brand is 100% about love over all, and probably wisely so. I’m sure she’s changed more minds by allowing people to change them.

Also, we don’t need to forget that Ru made questionable statements about trans contestants in the past. But since we are remembering it, we should also acknowledge her growth on the matter. It’s been a growing conversation ever since Season 2. And in this year alone, there were at least nine transwomen cast across five franchises. We can either celebrate this amazing accomplishment or be mad about something Ru said a decade ago. Personally I choose to celebrate the journey and the growth.
