Why is giving presentations forced onto kids, when everyone hates it?

During my diploma program, my school focused on problem-based learning, which means we are given a problem and we had to find info to that particular problem in a group. At the end of the day, we were to present our findings and solutions to the class. We did that every single school day for 2.5 years (one term was for internship).

Personally, I've always had anxiety speaking to an audience and are always stumbling all over my words as I get really nervous. But doing that almost every single day for 2.5 years really helped build my confidence and speaking skills. Talking to any more than 1 person is no longer a daunting task, and i've gotten over the "everyone is staring at me" feeling. This is just my own personal anecdote, however.
