GM is phasing out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in EVs

Views on this are short sided. Tesla set a precedent that people will buy a car if the OS is useful. GM gets developers and Google gets driving behavioral data and real-time traffic information for Maps. I’ll take this a step further. This is going to be a trend. Apple will enter the game. This week they became a financier and it will start with financing their AR headset and gradually a vehicle. Essentially a Go-as-you-Pay vehicle. You don’t subscribe, you don’t drive. People wont care about ownership or privacy as much as we currently do in the next 10-15 years. With life on display for most and buy now, pay later. We are already taking those first steps.

Matter is being used as a cross-platform framework/alliance that will allow Home Assistants from Apple, Amazon and Google to talk to each other. Take that concept and when every EV with an OS from those tech companies have years of driving behavior from brake taps to steering wheel grip, cars will become smarter and know how the car next to them “thinks.” Safer driving with real time car interactions. Autonomous driving gets infinitely better and can even predict a persons driving behavior should they choose not to be driven.

I know this sounds tinfoil hat but that’s the endgame. Couple this with AR wearables and phones will become obsolete. A lot of consumer electronics we’ve used for years (phones, TVs, etc) will become used less and less.
