GMAshley - Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson destroys innocent kid for not knowing Pi

Ignoring the faults of the amount of deaths in his tweet (a lot of the numbers are exaggerated like the medical error one), I just don't think that you can compare deaths from a school shooting with car accidents and all the other examples. There are a lot of safety precautions in place to reduce accidents and its really unavoidable to not have any deaths when there are so many people traveling by car, it also isn't a problem unique to the US. I don't think you could say the same about school shootings, it is a problem that's unique to the US and there haven't been any real solutions for this problem.

I also get that there was such a negative response to him rationalizing these peoples deaths. Firstly, people know that there is a risk in driving a vehicle and people accept that you can as a result die in a car accident because of it, but there being a risk of dying in a school is not something you can just accept so the 200 deaths vs 34 deaths aren't felt as equal. Secondly, the timing he posted the tweet wasn't the best. Posting this two days after a school shooting made this tweet a lot more ''offensive'' than if he did it let say a month later.
