I'll be honest with you, the amount of friends you make really depend on who you are as a person. If you're extroverted and outgoing then finding friends is easy peasy. Just join some clubs, go to events and networking opportunities!
However, if you're more on the introverted side you'll have some trouble. I've only really made 1 'friend' (someone who I'd have conversations with about my day or grab lunch with) in my 1 year of uni. It's honestly pretty hard if you're the type to just go home after class or just camp at one spot. Friends will always come up one way or another. Whether it's from a tutorial class or if you always sit in one spot for lectures(trust me, people notice seating patterns).
Best thing to do is definitely join clubs though, they're all super friendly but you might be overwhelmed at how many people there are. Just keep in mind everyone is on the same page as you, chances are they want friends just as much as you do!
Take it easy, talk to people you think seem friendly or you could get along with and you should be fine.
If you need anything or want to know more about the uni hit me up, I'd be more than happy to be your mate!
