Going out with a "successful" man and it's not what I thought it would be

This is the culture of both academia and startups, be forewarned. Having worked in this field, I'd proceed with causion.

Behind the vast majority of male academics is a stay at home wife who takes care of everything other than work (65% of male academics have a stay at home wife). Working late nights and weekends is the norm. Startup culture is very similar.

I'm also a firm believer that when someone shows you who they are to believe them. People usually don't change. By all means talk to him about it if you like, but this is a really good indicator of how things will be long-term. Personally, I wouldn't want that as the dynamic in my long-term partnership.
