Golden Fox - Fall 2015 Moc Toe Boots - ROUND 2

Seeing as fall is coming up for most of you I thought I’d put up a post on the Golden Fox boots I recently re-purchased.

Some of you may remember that I wrote a review over a year ago about my first pair.

Golden Fox has made some changes to the boot and I thought the community might be interested in how the original pair held up.

Firstly, I should say that for the price, I think these are one of the best pairs of moc toe boots you can buy. I practically paid almost the same price as the boots themselves, in shipping fees to Australia. That’s how much I like ‘em.

I’m a boots guy so I pretty much wore my original pair all year long. I wore them every day whilst on holiday and even took them hiking. They have seen a lot of miles and have not been babied. I occasionally conditioned them and occasionally would use shoe trees when they weren’t being worn. I occasionally opted for some boat shoes or plimsolls when we got our Australian summer heat wave rolling in, but they have seen heavy use.

So what gave out in the end? Surprisingly not much. I mean...they look beat. But they’re like 50-60 bucks! The sole wore down eventually due to the way I walk. Once your sole does this you can either get a resole or buy a new pair. Continuing to walk in boots that have worn away can be bad for your hips and back, so I decided to just get a new pair (even though we’re going into spring now).

I did have to change laces twice. The laces can be bought at any shoe store for a couple of bucks. I always laced them tight and never babied the rivets. All of the rivets are still intact with no issues.

The only issue I had with the boots after a year of constant wear were the back of the inside heel. The protective cushion had began to wear away with the constant abrasion. I don’t believe there is anything you can do to prevent this though and it never became uncomfortable. I would guess if I continued to wear them it eventually would though.

Golden Fox made a couple of changes to the 2015 fall run. The green Golden Fox cloth has been removed from the tongue and a black embossed fox logo has been branded into the leather instead.

The GF branding has been removed from the quarter heel panel, as has the other branding on the side. This seemed to be a source of some complaint. It’s good to see they listened to this.

The less conspicuous branding the better. I think the minimalistic fox on the tongue is perfect.

Speaking of which, the material in the tongue is definitely thicker and feels more comfortable.

I have not noticed any defects with the stitching and the boot still feels very well made and is still goodyear welted and made with a full grain upper.

In my original review I mentioned that the leather seemed a bit plasticy at first. I’ve reached out to Golden Fox to confirm whether or not their leather has changed.

The leather in this revision seems to be of a better quality and definitely stiffer. My previous pair didn’t require any break in. I’m hoping it isn’t my imagination, but the leather definitely feels better.

I believe these are part of the 2015 Fall collection and should be available very shortly.

There is also a very nice suede boot they’re working on too. Looks very nice.

Again, happy to answer any questions you have. I almost want to stock up on these boots for the future!
