Was gonna wait for her response to post this but I don’t think I’m getting one

it wouldn't make sense to compare globally because there's just too much variance between say sweden and the phillipines to get any meaningful comparisons... no matter how globalized the world is now (you learned a new vocab word today ;) )

This is the important part. This argument comes down to a question of audience. I am from about the most boring, backwater part of Australia as it gets. I feel as though non-US Redditors are confronted by the US centric nature of this site, the internet and media at large sometimes, and usually when trying to engage that media source. In a vacuum it seems almost absurd. I am from Adelaide Australia. Tell me a fact about Adelaide, SA. I doubt many could. But I can tell you a hell of a lot about US history despite having never been close and having known less than a handful of Americans. I know far more regarding US politics and history than I do about my own country, not out of intentional preference but media popularity and accessibility.

I suppose the option you're leaving going forward is to assume that the US is the centre of mainstream culture. And tbh I'll put up with the sardonic, sentence by sentence deconstructions if it means most of the TV I watch is in a language I understand
