Good building materials/good material combinations

I've got a list of a bunch of different blocks that I usually end up using, they all tend to go pretty well together. I sort my "blocks" into either accents or bases. So something like a wall would be made up of a base block while a trim around a wall would be an accent

From chisel there is the tyrian and Lab block derivatives, not very expensive and I usually use these as a wall or floor, holystone has some limited use as an accent if you want the twinkling. One thing that bugs me about chisel is more often than not I would prefer a non connected texture and there's usually only one or two options per block that aren't connected textures

Railcraft has quarried/abyssal stone and it's derivatives make great base blocks and are pretty easy to get (abyssal's a pain in the ass)

Out of the woods I generally limit myself to birch, dark oak, and botania's livingwood either in plank or log, Generally I use birch and dark oak as bases but livingwood I can use either as a base or an accent

From thaumcraft there's the arcane stone blocks and bricks which I mostly use as accents, if you're willing to rush endgame thaumcraft ancient stone makes for fantastic walls or path material

From vanilla, cyan hardened clay is my big one as a base block, I also use stone slabs quite a bit

other things on my list are using trodden dirt (botania) for pathways, radiant lumium lamps and project:Red Lanterns make for some nice lighting solutions if you're not feeling carpenter's blocks+glowstone.

Generally I can make almost any combination of these work, MFR has some interesting blocks as well but I just don't really use them.

My final bit of advice is to select 2-4 blocks and go to town, but create depth. Pillars, beams across ceilings, and framing your builds I feel makes more of a difference than your color palate choice. Good luck with your build, hope this helps
