This seems like an appropriate thread to ask: as a professional rock musician, I’ve never felt a real passion towards electronic music. I find joy in analyzing music and in hearing the “rules” of music broken.

Can people who are really into electronic music do the same thing? I feel really ignorant listening to electronic music because I don’t understand how it’s made or what’s going on beyond basic rhythms and melodies... if I spent a significant amount of time listening to and learning the ins and outs of electronic music, do you think it’s possible for me to gain the same level of appreciation I have for the nuance and subtlety of rock music in electronic music?
