Google is building a 1,000-language AI model to beat Microsoft-backed chatGPT

This is my wheelhouse. Google has no prayer of catching Microsoft in AI any time soon. Microsoft was light years ahead of Google way before they got in bed with OpenAI. Microsoft’s projects mostly slipped under the radar because aside from a few products like XBox and Windows, they’re primarily a B2B company these days. Money won’t help Google catch up with Microsoft. What they need is time. They can gain on Microsoft by dedicating the computing resources of more server farms (more collective “man hours” if you will), but even if they double Microsoft’s resources, it’ll be years before they catch up. These are both top 5 richest companies on earth, so it isn’t realistic to think that Google can drown Microsoft out with superior resources. The landscape could look different in ten years, but Microsoft will have a substantial lead for the foreseeable future.
