Google reports soaring attrition among Black women

Tbh I’ve been in multiple engineering sectors the last 10 years and have been still involved with the universities for continued education/recruiting. There really are super low levels of black women turn outs. Out of the 1000 people we talked to at a 2-3 uni recruiting event I maybe saw like 10-15 black women show interest. That being said I’ve seen more and more white and Hispanic women dropping in, which I thought was interesting.

My observations were that there just wasn’t any interest really. Even in the business (I work in defense) I can think of 1-2 black women who have stayed on for the long haul. Oddly enough the male diversity is definitely there, guys from all races and backgrounds, east coast and west coast.

I feel like these metrics have no basis in reality and are just a half hearted attempt at looking inclusive. If ladies aren’t interested in general then cut your losses and try to find different avenues of inspiring. Maybe use those funds to provide more outreach to high schools with higher black populations or something?
