Google throws support behind bringing Rust to the Linux kernel

This is the Rust subreddit and people will hate me for this, but hear me out, I really love Rust, but I can't help but think this is a terrible idea. There is just too much C code in the Linux kernel. By adding an other language to the mix in there, you will dilute the expertise and focus of the kernel developers.

Of course, Rust has huge advantages over C in certain areas, but even though you MIGHT decrease complexity locally in new parts of the kernels using Rust, you will increase complexity globally by adding a new language and its associated baggages to the mix.

But truly, the Linux kernel is a tried and true success story of software engineering. The sensible thing to do is to not diverge from what has made it so successful and continue cultivating the existing, tried and true, expertise that has made it this good. Do not lose focus on doing the right thing just because a bunch of bored, overqualified for their job, developers at Google are saying this is a good idea ;)

And for those who are thinking about going "muh muh muh gatekeeper hur dur dur"... This isn't your latest hobby project turned somewhat serious we're talking about, this is the Linux freaking kernel.
