Got approached for my first Crafting commission, how do you handle requests? +[minor rant?]

"I said I was offering work to a culinarian, not looking to work for one. its up to you to provide the materials. now if you want to subcontract, you can pay me to gather the materials"

well thats a stupid way to reply to if he is supplying the mats or not, especially since you obviously showed you are a new crafter.

if someone doesnt supply mats I would figure out what it would cost me to make and offer a price. generally a bit lower than the MB, but enough for profit. say an item costs me 250k to make, sells for 900k on the MB, I'd start with a ~750k suggestion (leaves room if they haggle). also depends on how long it takes to make and the risk of normal qualitying it and having to remake it, could go cheaper depending on that (current level 70 crafts are guaranteed HQ with a fast macro so i have no risk

if they supply the mats just a comparatively small amount based on how hard the craft is and how many I have to do. if its like "hey can you make me this level 54 DRK greatsword?" i'd honestly just do it for free, but if it takes a while to craft then ill charge something. depends on how much you value your time and the crafts themselves, and for who it is (friends get it cheaper, repeat customers, etc). couldnt say a number on this though

additionally if I craft something for someone from their mats, i would personally disclaimer that HQ might not be guaranteed if it isnt, and make using reclaim to get a better chance at more hasty touch successes their choice just in case the 10% thing happens and you lose the mats.

hope this rambly comment helps in some way.
