Got made to feel grotesque today.

Ok first I want to say CONGRATS on how far you've already come!! That's fantastic!

Now for the other stuff. You probably don't realize how much your weight is actually playing a part in it. I can give you myself as an example. I broke my back in 3 places back almost 18 yrs ago. I have a replacement vertebrae, a titanium rod, some screws, and generally my back x-ray looks like Frankenstein. I've also had both my wrists shattered, my pelvic bone cracked, several ribs broken, and several of my fingers and toes. I work on our mini farm and my feet started swelling and my arthritis in those previously broken areas was awful. I have a real physical problem, but I was also 200 lbs and 5 ft 4, my weight had skyrocketed when I quit smoking and I put on over 50 pounds in about a year. When I started having the swelling and stuff I went in and the doc said the same thing to me that I was overweight. This made me angry because I knew I had these real physical problems.

Fast forward 9 mths since I started eating healthy, I'm down 49.8 lbs (those 2 oz. are killing me!) and all of the sudden my feet aren't swelling up anymore. My arthritis in my hands is still there, but my back, feet, and legs are great. One day I just noticed that running, climbing steps, and standing didn't hurt anymore. My weight was causing a large percentage of my pain, not all of it just most of it. I do have real injuries there but the weight was making them so much worse. It sounds very much like you are in the same boat.

Now that I've said that, I'll say this, don't be ashamed. This is like a person who is quitting smoking beating themselves up for being a smoker. It serves no purpose and that's not who you are anymore. You've got this. You are already a changed person, your body just hasn't caught up yet, but it will! Do what you can to minimize your injury and keep at it with good diet and as much exercise as you are able. If you need to talk hit me up, I can tell you all about hot pads and NSAIDS (ibuprofen is great for swelling and ache) or just offer you some moral support!
