Gov. Lee Wants Tennessee To Spend On Broadband, Expanded Gun Rights In Latest Budget Proposal

I'll echo Scalia again and say that regulations cannot be applied to arms that are "in common use." Permitting has gone away in many states, so what purpose is there to maintain it in TN? Just because it makes anti-gunners feel safe? It has no measurable impact other than making it harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their rights.

Additionally, the mere notion that the 2nd Amendment is some special exception to the original Bill of Rights that allows for regulation doesn't really hold water. The Bill of Rights was written as restrictions on government forbidding citizens their rights, why would the 2nd amendment be the exception to that rule? It's clear in the spirit of the text that the founders did not have that intention.

Furthermore, I'm not sure everyone reading this understand what a "gun permit" is. There is no requirement in TN to receive a permit to own a firearm, what this is referring to is the concealed and open-carry of firearms on a person's body. Anyone that is legally allowed to own a firearm can do so in TN without any special permit or registration with the state.

As for gun crimes I think it's pretty easy to compare overall crime rates before/after the removal of a permitting process to see the impact.
