"GPA doesn't matter"

So if you got a 4.0 GPA in school, the only thing you've proven is that you are good at prepping for tests and doing useless "glorified busywork". It does not prove that you are a good software developer.

My program must just be really good because it involves tons of software development. Only finite automata theory is really useless.

Some of the best software engineers are those who perform mediocre in school because they instead spend their time working on side projects and developing skills that are actually useful.

What skills? Almost everything I learn in school seems useful. The only thing I can't learn through classes for credit at my school are just random languages, but I can learn one in like 5 or 10 hours and already have a ton on my resume and github. What would you be spending so much time learning that you can't do for credit?
