Grades have ruined learning

I graduated HS in 2005. I was a very smart guy/student, I was fully capable of straight A's, however, as a dedicated athlete in two sports, honestly, homework often fell by the wayside, so I was mostly a C student. Since I'm a teacher now...I feel like nowadays, had I come up in the current school system, a mere 15 years later...even with my heavy time investment sports, I'd be pulling in straight A's. Used to be you didn't turn in your assignment? MAYBE you can turn it in a day later for half credit, maybe. Nowadays it's like, oh you didn't turn in your assignment? Oh you poor thing, I'm sorry it was assigned to you. Here's your A. Or like, oh you didn't do the assignment at all? Here, instead of your 0 that you deserve, we're going to give you at least half credit, honestly more like 75% credit because we don't want your parents to throw a fit. It's just sad all around, honestly.
