I would escalate this. You have nothing to lose. Assuming you have the emails, your argument is that you based your choice of classes specifically on what the advisor told you (reference the email). You were assured in writing that the class would count and you acted on that information. Say that you would not have taken that class if you had received correct information from the advisor. But you were misinformed, in writing.

You should not be penalized for receiving incorrect information from the advisor. Don’t accept the “nothing we can do” line — a course can always be substituted or a requirement waived.

This all assumes, of course, that you have “the receipts” — and they in fact say what you’re telling us.
