Grandparent favoritism re: MIL

I'm going to take a very generalised, stereotypical guess based on typical gender roles. I'm not sexist and don't agree with these, hence the disclaimer. It's also based on my own experience of my own MIL.

Your LO still has their Mum 'in the way'. Whereas as your step daughter, on the days your MIL can access her, she doesn't have to deal with the Mum. A lot of the MIL issues you see on this sub are specifically around MILs wanting the 'real' Mums out of the way so they can play mummy, have control etc.

Is that possibly a contributor? Based on the idea Mothers are usually the primary caregiver and therefore are the biggest competition to an overbearing MIL.
