Grant Sees Trading Choo as Key to Offseason

Well, this is a puzzle. Of these four players, Choo is really the only one who can still play. While he's not worth the money the Rangers are paying him, he is still a legit big league hitter. Great approach, good walk rate, some power. But...he's 35 years old, so who knows how long that will last.

But these other three pitchers are worthless. Two are less expensive than Choo, one is quite a bit more expensive. None are as old, but all are on the wrong side of 30 and then some. None of these teams need Choo and the Rangers don't really need any of these pitchers.

It's complicated. In the end you might ask yourself this: if the Rangers were to make an improbable run next season or the season after that, which of these four players are likely to be able to help? The answer is probably Shin Soo Choo. But who knows...

Further complications: throwing other talent into the mix, like Profar. If I'm only going to get a reliever for Profar, I think I'd just keep Profar. Then again the Rangers will probably need a little more relief pitching if they're ever going to go on that improbable run.

What a mess.
