The Great Lakes...?

I remember an article saying that Syracuse and Buffalo were part of the top 5 safest cities from natural disasters. Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse were considered part of the top 5 snowiest. I remember one recent winter where Buffalo still had snow melting in July.

If you can afford it, live by the lake. For some reason, we didn't get as much lake effect as people who lived a few miles away from the coastline. It was as though clouds started dumping snow further in land. Get use to driving in over a feet of snow or having snow banks reaching your second floor. I remember one storm where we had to stay in for 4 days. My dad was an essential worker, but because he had a young family, his coworkers volunteered to spend all 4 days at work.

Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse are all connected by I90. You can easily find good medical specialists and have easy drive to get to them. Compared to where I'm living now, those three cities have better job opportunities. You can live in between Buffalo and Rochester and only have an hour commute to work. Shopping at the cities are good too.

There is subtle or outright racism. The notion is odd considering their Civil War ancestors killed confederates, but I have seen people fly confederate flags. If you and your family is white, then you won't have a problem.

This is the opinion of someone who grew up in a rural area of the Great Lakes and had family here for 6 generations. My great great great grandparents had their homestead down the road from where I grew up. I have moved away not too long ago and miss the area.
