Why Greatschools ratings are broken

Thanks for woking me on this. I just looked at the Great Schools ratings for the elementary schools in the area I’m buying in (Rockville MD) and am clearly seeing this pattern. This was never a factor in my buying decision (no kids) but was curious, as it might affect my future resale value (a very long time away).

Schools that would otherwise rate 7/10 on overall academic progress and have great reviews are weighted down by 5/10 equity scores because they report significant fractions of black/Latino students. Nearby schools that were given 9/10 that don’t have any better overall scores but are given 10/10 equity ratings because their students are mainly white/asian with no reported black/latino populations.
