This may seem cliche. But sometimes a band comes out of the US exactly when we were looking for a group like that. Perfect time. Perfect look. Perfect sound. Like we were waiting... That is Green Day to a T. There was nothing snazzy about them. Their look was generic punk. But their sound is so welcome and recognizable it feels like they've been here forever. CCR was like that. They became popular right at the end of the Beatles era. People had heard enough baroque pop and psychedelic tunes for ten lifetimes. And then this collection of straight ahead rock, hillbilly, soul & blues was the exact sound for the time. Green Day hit the national consciousness when grunge was just about coming to an end. And boy. Did we need them!
