Greensboro residents, HALP!

I'm not about to read that really long other reply, I'm sure they presented some valid points and covered a lot of things, but I figured I'd go ahead and lend my perspective.

As someone who has lived in the greensboro middle class suburbs for all of his life, Greensboro is a good town to live in. Maybe not amazing, but it's good. While crime rates are statistically high, if you choose not to live in the inner city, it's fairly unlikely that you'll experience it. Just be careful about protecting your shit and it should be fine.

If you're thinking about having kids at some point, we have some really great schools in the area. I don't really know why I thought of that, but hey, it's something.

Given that you're coming from boone, I feel that you should know that greensboro is not a scenic city. There are some nice rural and suburban areas here and there, but it's not a nature type of town, you know? We have parks throughout, so you can find it if you look, but you're not going to be seeing a gorgeous value from out your backdoor unless you pay a shit ton.

The downtown area itself is fairly nice for night life, and we've got a nice scattering of businesses throughout all of the main thoroughfares, so you shouldn't find yourself in a situation where you're bored solid. I guess what these last few point have been trying to get across is that we're not really New York or backwoods Tennessee, but we've got a nice smattering of both to our town. It's not hustle bustle, it's not slowtime farmland, it's kind of like a neighborhood city if you catch my drift.

One of our main features is the downtown colosseum, which gets some pretty noteworthy gigs now and then. High profile concerts, rallies, circuses, the works.

Property value is alright. It's definitely not bad, I don't know if the average person would say it's good because I've never bought a house or apartment, but from what I hear, shit's good for not too much money.

So what would hold you back? Well, the weather is a lot different. Boone is much snowier of course, and G-boro gets only a little snow, like a week or so of at most 6 inches every year. Summers are fucking hot. But that's probably not a big deal to you. Other things: you may end up feeling claustrophobic, you'll need to take some time to know the area, there's only a few main strips of business (wendover, highpoint road, deep river, etc.) but they are fairly large, there's less nature, and it may be difficult to find a good area to live in for cheap.

So that's what I've got to say about it. All in all, I don't think you should be too nervous about it. It's really just another city, you know? It's got its highs, it's got its lows, but it really shouldn't be a big deal. Just come on down and check the place out some weekend soon and you should pretty much get the feel for the place right away. Hope this helps! I didn't really get into the nitty-gritty of like money and stuff, but this place is my home and I love it despite what flaws it has, so I had to throw in my two cents.
