Growing up in a haunted house, we only sleep in one room. (in fact, i think the entire area is haunted)

I live in a double-story house where the houses are all connected in rows upon rows. You could hear your neighbors through the wall if they were having loud sex, which happens occasionally. We were a family of 5, i've got 2 sisters and when we first moved in we used to all sleep in a room together while my parents would be in the master bedroom. Things started getting weird when our parents would wake up to us sleep walking in circles right outside of our rooms. What is creepy is that the sleep walking will happen one by one to each of us. From eldest to the youngest kid. So they would have to put us back to bed one by one.

After awhile, it was decided the whole family would sleep together and the sleep walking stopped. Something was really wrong with the house but most of the activities seems to originate from that room. We were young then and were the youngest kids among our immediate neighbors, the rest were all easily in their high school years. Young as we were, we were definitely no longer infant baby crying age. My youngest sister was by then 4/5 years old. No babies in the area too. Yet in the mornings, our neighbors would ask us who was crying so late at night from that room. Remember, no one sleeps there, no babies in the area. Some days, even we could hear the crying while we are all in the master bed room. Parents would open the door to check and immediately the crying stops.

I think i may be the most sensitive of all of my siblings, growing up i would wake up to sounds of marching. I would be able to follow the sound right downstairs to a particular spot in the storeroom where we keep our junk and i remember even running through all the boxes there to hear the marching sound. Wasn't afraid then, didn't connect the dots that it was military marching, usually day time after dawn, really don't bring up much fear. The sound will suddenly disappear, much like in the horror films where the intensity in the atmosphere suddenly lifts and then all that's left is this sudden silence. I only connected the dots very much later in high school when i was into scouting and we did a lot of marching that was when the timing and marching steps made sense to me. And how commands would change the rhythm of the steps changes.

It was also much later when i was watching Japanese anime do i realize that the commands i would wake up hearing were Japanese military commands. Add it all up, Malaysia was invaded by the Japanese, they set up camps all over their conquered land. We had a maid to come help out with the cleaning since my mother was pregnant at that time and she was to stay in that room. It was barely a month when she told us that she could no longer stay in that room and would no longer want to work with us. Something about a presence in the room that bothered her in her sleep and she kept pointing at this spot in the room. We figured it was just an excuse by her to get out of her contract and let her go.

Then one day an uncle came over to stay with us for a few months since he was working in town. My mom would wake up in the middle of the night to noise downstairs and when she checked, he was just awake down there looking for old tapes to watch. He said he was tired but was not allowed to stay in that room, he was even afraid to close his eyes, said each time he tried to close his eyes in there he would see very gruesome and violent scenes all flashing very quickly and the brings up a very genuine fear as if those dangers were all directed to him. He stayed downstairs for the rest of his stay with us.

There has always been a certain stillness in the entire neighborhood, even with all the kids coming out to play in the evening, there is a stillness in the air that once u move out of the area, you can feel a difference. Most of our neighbors have moved away, the houses were mostly rented out as we used rent them but many are abandoned now. The neighbors have met up before and it was only after so many years did we realize that every house had their own resident ghost. The most notable one was our next door neighbor where there was a lady in a red dress who appears by their bedside crying.

All their kids have woken up to that lady in red before. One time one of their daughter's boyfriend stayed over and he ended up waking up the entire house when he saw the girl crying by his bed. It was not the first time the entire family has been woken up because of the lady in red anyways. Their first few encounters they genuinely thought someone had broken into their home when the red lady was just floating all over their house from rooms to rooms, and the family were just trying to locate her.

The worst had to be their father who would be caught sleep walking. He was a balding man reaching retirement. His wife would catch him sleep walking to the mirror, sits down and combs his hair gracefully like how a lady with very long hair would. And that would just go on all night even if she tries to bring him back to bed. When done, he will just walk back to bed. In Chinese belief, a lady in red is a lady who died unjustly and are seeking retribution . That explains why they always see her crying in their house.

It's been almost 15 years since we all moved away, i still go back there once in a while, the atmosphere in the place still has a certain stillness to it. A certain death. We later found out that at a mining pool a walking distance away from the houses, developers were trying to clean it up for a new apartment, while cleaning up they found many baby remains there. PEOPLE USED TO DUMP BABIES THERE!!!! For whatever reasons they did it, the world is just fucked up man.

Add that up with the Japanese marching i hear, i think we can safely deduce what happened there. Japanese came in, massacred the locals, raped many ladies as would have happened during the Japanese Invasion everywhere. The Lady in Red might very well have been one of their victims, which would represent the unjust that has been done to her. I believe that there are just paranormal black spots in the world. Especially places of great tragedies. You rarely get those super powered ghosts like in The Conjuring, but rather more often they just becomes a part of your life until you are able to escape from that house, leaving it to someone else to live in. No one should ever be afraid of the unseen in their own home.
