Grrr...motivation?! Loss of purpose? Help?

I don't know man it sounds like you're expecting quick results. That is not the case with guitar or any instrument. Your motivation should be to get better. It pisses you off that you are a guitar weakling and the only way to fix that is your own commitment. That's what made me practice 6+ hours a days at times. Granted I am one of the lucky few who have an amazing teacher but he's always pushed 2 very important sayings on me:

1) "It's you versus you" 2) "A lack of effort gives a lack results"

That's just it, the only person holding you back on guitar is yourself. Also, playing by yourself is very normal. This is why so many of the great musicians are "mysterious" because they practice endlessly and become very anti-social in many cases. If that bothers you, you might want to reconsider but you need to examine your own goals as well. How good do you really want to get? From what you're describing you could probably get there in a year or 2 if you put in even an hour a night. Is that really too much? I practice 3-4 hours a night and I work a full time job. On the weekends it's routine for me to wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning and practice til lunch time and then I'll usually put in an hour or 2 later in the evening before I go to sleep. You have to really learn to manage your time. The only reason I'm not practicing right now is because I am writing this at work. Keep in mind that the really, really pro guys practice 10-12 hours a day to get really good. Go study and read about Randy Rhoads, he'd practice his solos sometimes 16 hours a day without hardly eating, that's why he was only weighed 100 pounds and look how good he was.

Anyway, my teacher is kind enough to put videos on YouTube. Everything he teaches is very basic stuff but you need to be willing to put the work in. He teaches primarily classical style though, that means not being lazy with your technique. If you only want to dabble with guitar you will never get to where you want to be, it takes effort and tons of patience.
