Well you said they didn't know their basics like there were rules they didn't know about when applying stroke thickness or kerning or tracking, that sounds less like an opinion but more like you're passing off facts. But I guess you've changed your stance after you finally decided to google them to see they've done everything under the sun for more than a decade to know these "basic concepts". As for ink traps, in print you will still get blobs of ink for tight corners at small sizes maybe not as bad anymore, the same thing applies for screen where you'll see build up of color in tight corners at small sizes. You don't zoom into it to see it's effectiveness, of course if you did that it breaks the curve. The job of an inktrap is to be invisible yet functional at small sizes.
But, that is my opinion.
The great thing about reddit is anyone can have an opinion I suppose, problem is you came strong on your critique at first but we finally know it's from someone with inexperience which kinda bogs down on what can be taken seriously around here. hehe.
