GTA 6 Would Be Tricky To Make In Today's Political Climate, Says Rockstar Co-Founder

Trevor and all his friends are not just satire of redneck trailer-park culture but of conservative willful ignorance and blind loyalty to their "team" even in the face of contrary facts. There is even a conservative talk radio station.

Liberals get hit a lot too and not only in the mission you mentioned. There is a very silly NPR-esque station satirizing them and the guy who is campaigning to make pot legal is also satirizing liberals (even though marijuana legalization is a bipartisan issue, it is more often supported by Democrats and this particular character is a hippy with arguments filled with sophistry until he reveals that he just wants to get high and get other people high.)

@ u/Cadoc u/57_4f_50_52 u/Jerzidevil - Well, the intent was comedy and entertainment rather than taking a serious position. GTA is a mass-market product and it has to be in order to sell enough to get as huge a budget as it gets. Would you really want them to take a real position or support those positions with sophistication?

I'm seriously asking because I work on AAA games and we've mostly just avoided politics unless doing so would be ridiculous and insulting to the audience (like Far Cry 5; for example). We do this because we're AAA and thus mass-market, but we're also a huge team that is very diverse in political opinions and we try to professionally keep those opinions out of the work place. Also, to be perfectly honest, while some of the issues are important to us, they aren't fun and there are plenty of universal themes that we're more interested in for our narratives; however, I wonder if gamers are going to comment negatively about us for this choice like you guys have done in regards to Rockstar.
