US gun fans. Looking at Vegas; please explain a baffled European how it is so many of you believe 'more guns' is the answer?

I'm an American that lives in England. You got some valid answers pertaining to why Americans feel this way, but to add to this a bit, there is a reason that Americans don't want the government that involved in general. The Brits don't have guns the way Americans do and they have universal healthcare and liberal Americans LOVE to argue that if England can do it, and it works for them, then so can we. I probably would have said that at one point, as well. After experiencing everything first hand, though, I'm really not so sure.

I'm tired of paying a road tax and still driving on crappy roads. I'm tired of not having TV because of the TV tax that I don't feel like wasting money on. When I had to seek medical care on the NHS, I had to argue to get the care that I needed, because the government doesn't want to spend more than they need to. In the states, I get preventative healthcare without asking, because I pay for it and deserve it. Does everyone deserve it? Yes they do. Does everyone in the states get it? No. And that's a problem. But I still wouldn't argue that the NHS fixes that issue. I still prefer my own healthcare.

The US has a problem with gun violence, but Europe (including the UK) has an issue with Islamic terrorists running cars and trucks into crowds. The US is huge, and I'm not from a big city, so I really don't go about my life worrying about gun violence. At all. Anytime I'm out in a crowd here, I remain insanely vigilant about who is around me that may decide it's a good idea to blow themselves up or something else ridiculous.

I'm not arguing that there isn't a gun problem in the states because there most definitely is. I'm just trying to make the point that The US and Britain are both very different (in size and in beliefs) and shouldn't really be compared regarding these issues.
