Gun rights group threatens lawsuit after Massachusetts posts firearm sale data online

You're ignoring what I said. I found mine

By using non-public information known to you, your own name.

and knowing mine I was easily able to find others.

By using non-public information known to you, the identities of other gun owners you consented to do business with.

Given that the state requires records of transactions to be kept is it really that hard for you to imagine that using this publicly-released information in conjunction with other records might be used for ill purposes? It doesn't take much on an imagination to see that.

Then you should have no problem answering this question I asked in my original post. How would I, a random person with no knowledge of any gun owner's identities, use this data to de-anonymize the anonymous data set?

There is literally no possible public safety or informatics reason for the state to widely release information that can tie gun purchases to individuals.

The data the state released is considered a public record under the state's public records law. If you don't like the law write to your state legislator instead of arguing with me on reddit.

How would you feel about, say, abortions being released the same way?
